For the first time in Academy Award show history, a female director has taken home the award for best director. Kathryn Bigelow received a well-earned standing ovation as she carried away the Oscar for in the best director category. Adding to the drama was the fact that one of the nominees she beat out was her ex-husband 'Avatar' director James Cameron, who was actually said to have been rooting for Bigelow.
