Electrolit's Nadia Ruiz Completes Everest Base Camp Marathon
The premium hydration brand Electrolit has announced that its sponsored athlete, Nadia Ruiz, successfully completed the Everest Base Camp Marathon in Nepal.
The Everest Base Camp Marathon is noted as an extreme high-altitude endurance race reaching elevations of approximately 17,598 feet, where oxygen levels are roughly half of those at sea level. Competing among 217 runners in race morning temperatures of -12 degrees Celsius, Ruiz finished in eight hours, 32 minutes, and 16 seconds. She placed 107th overall and became the sixth American finisher.
The Everest Base Camp Marathon, which has been held in the Himalayan region since 2003, features steep ascents, uneven terrain, and conditions that force runners to abandon normal pacing strategies and constantly adapt their effort and recovery from mile to mile. Ruiz credited her hydration partner Electrolit for supporting her through training, race day, and recovery.
