Zac Posen Enlists Female Coder and Designers for a New LED Dress

Zac Posen opened fashion week with an ingenious and female-empowering dress. The LED dress is a play on the "little black dress" but is made for the digital age. Furthermore, Posen collaborated with Google's Made with Code Initiative -- an organization that encourages female coders -- to create the garment.

The field of computer science has historically been male-dominated and this unique enterprise attempts to challenge the popular notion. The final product was coded by technologist Maddy Maxey and incorporated animations sent in from women all over the world.

A basic coding program called Blockly allowed users to move shapes, patterns and colors around to make a particular design their own. Maxey believes that coding is going to be extremely important in the future of fashion. However, Maxey and the team behind the empowering dress are more concerned about providing resources to encourage women to start coding.
