Electric Theme Park Rides

Disneyland Turns Autopia into an Electric Ride

Disneyland is preparing an electric version of Autopia, replacing the attraction's gasoline engines before California's February 1 air-pollution deadline. The shift keeps Tomorrowland guests driving their own cars on the guided course while removing the fuel-powered setup that has defined the ride for decades.

Autopia has been running since 1955 and remains one of the few original Tomorrowland attractions still operating in Disneyland's Tomorrowland. Disney is developing a fully electric format with a setup that differs from a standard battery car, and Honda's sponsorship runs into early 2027.

A fully electric rebuild keeps a 71-year-old attraction compliant without changing its guest-controlled format, which makes environmental upgrades less disruptive for parks with legacy rides. California air-pollution rules turn cleaner ride hardware into a practical way to keep older attractions still running.
