Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

The Edgar Street Towers Feature Bio-Filtration

— May 13, 2010 — Eco
The Edgar Street Towers will be an impressive sight on the streets of New York, especially since it will be located directly south of the World Trade Center. But I have to admit, I think this design will steal the show.

Commissioned by Downtown Alliance and designed by IwamotoScott Architecture, the Edgar Street Towers is a sustainable skyscraper that features bio-filtration that will continuously bring in fresh air. What's more, a special fiber-optic layer draws daylight in while solar-charged battery packs light the building up at night.

Trend Themes

  1. Sustainable Skyscrapers — Opportunities for architects and sustainability-focused companies to create bio-filtration and energy-efficient designs in tall buildings.
  2. Bio-filtration Systems — Opportunities for companies to innovate and market pollution-reducing and air-purifying systems that can be integrated into buildings and urban infrastructure.
  3. Fiber Optic Layer — Opportunities for companies to develop more effective fiber optic technologies for use in architectural design to improve natural daylighting in buildings and save energy.

Industry Implications

  1. Architecture — Architects and design firms can integrate sustainable and energy-efficient elements into their designs and create innovative, eco-friendly buildings.
  2. Construction — Construction companies can take advantage of sustainable building materials and methods and incorporate new technologies to create eco-friendly structures.
  3. Renewable Energy — Companies focused on renewable energy sources can integrate solar power and other renewable energy sources into building systems and design more efficient energy systems.
