The 'Droplet' Sprinkler Uses Weather and Soil Data to Water Plants

Droplet is a smart sprinkler system that knows which parts of your garden need to be watered, when they need to be watered and just how much water they need. It works by selectively watering plants rather than randomly spraying water all over the plants, sidewalk and passersby.

Droplet uses real-time information from 10,000 American weather stations as well as seasonal weather data and live forecasts. It then analyzes this data using additional information on soil type and transpiration rates to add additional context. Finally, it waters the plants that need watering. It even tracks its own water consumption.

Droplet's makers say the device takes only five minutes to set up using a laptop, tablet and smartphone before it's good to go. It's just a matter of feeding information about where different kinds of plants are located in your garden.
