DIY video games have proven to be a difficult task in the past but as technology evolves, even this activity becomes more accessible to those with little to no programming experience. For those who are easily impacted by nostalgia, GB Studio enables you to create your own 8-bit game system for Nintendo GameBoy.
GB Studio utilizes a visual editor, making the need for programming experience not necessary. Late last year, the application was updated by programmer Chris Maltby to support GameBoy color, custom events, menus, avatars, and more. In its present state, the DIY video game experience is sufficient to create Pokemon-style RPG's, but Maltby has shown initiative in wanting to "expand into platformers and shoot-em-ups."
GB Studio is available through Maltby's Itch.io page and can be installed on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
