Securly has updated its Restrict AI Mode setting to let K-12 school districts block Google AI Overview in student search results. Previously, the setting only covered Google's chat-style AI Mode. The change means schools can keep standard search links visible while removing AI-generated summaries.
The control is managed through Securly Filter's Policy Editor, where administrators can choose which year groups have access to Google's AI features. Depending on the filtering method, students will either no longer see the AI sections or will be redirected away from them. Google Images and News remain available, and SafeSearch settings are unaffected.
For schools that do allow some AI tools, Securly AI Transparency provides visibility into student usage. The company says the service has given 1,806 districts insight into more than 6.2 million student AI chats. The latest update gives schools more control over which AI features students can access through everyday searches.
