This Sidewalk-Strolling Delivery Robot Couriers Goods in 5-30 Minutes
Cadhla Gray — November 2, 2015 — Tech
This delivery robot could be driving along sidewalks, transporting goods and packages to people's doors in the very near future. The co-owners of Skype launched a company called Starship Technologies, which oversees this autonomous rover project.
The little delivery robot will travel at four miles per hour and while that is much slower than a human delivery system, it is much more cost-effective as well as environmentally friendly. It has the capacity to courier two grocery bags worth of items, or 20 pounds, and will take between five and 30 minutes to arrive. The goods are locked inside the robot and can only be accessed through a recipient's code that will be provided through an accompanying app.
While many businesses are looking to delivery drones in the future, these rovers may prove to be a more realistic option when it comes to regulations, laws and practicality.
