Twitter has created a new deepfake policy, which it is publicly releasing in hopes of receiving input before the policy is implemented. Users of the platform are able to send feedback on the draft using the #TwitterPolicyFeedback hashtag.
Deepfakes have become a growing issue due to the potential implications of misinformation being spread on a massive scale. Twitter's new deepfake policy will see that manipulated content will have a notice displayed alongside it. The platform will also warn users that share manipulated content. Twitter also stated that if deepfake content could threaten a person's safety, that actions could be taken to remove the content.
