Australian design firm Coop Himmelb(l)au had the winning entry for the Dawang Mountain Resort near Changsha, China. The abandoned cement-mining quarry has a nearby lake and will act as a winter sports resort and water park. The Deep Pit Ice and Snow World will be constructed from cliff to cliff while the quarry will be turned into an artificial landscape with pools, paths and plant life.
Coop Himmelb(l)au's competition winning commission design proposes an indoor skiing center, outdoor swimming pool and a waterfall. A 100 meter-high hotel will be built alongside the resort across from a public plaza. The reflective exterior also gives the Dawang Mountain Resort a futuristic and modern feel, with incredible views of Dawang Mountain and Tongxi Lake.
