Fans of Stephen King, arguably the most important horror writer in modern fiction, are typically aware of the radical departure from King’s earlier work that The Dark Tower series represents. Regardless, the premium cable provider HBO has seen promise in the franchise and hopes to serialize the pseudo-Western books into an action-packed, yet philosophical television show.

Devoted fans must be thinking, who exactly could fill the dust-ridden boots of the protagonist, Roland Deschain? Rumors have it that Javier Bardem, made famous by his sinister role in ‘No Country for Old Men,’ will step up to the challenge of the Dark Tower! Considering the awe-inspiring production of Game of Thrones, another speculative fiction series adopted by HBO, I have nothing but high hopes for the fidelity and quality of the forthcoming live-action gunslinging. Although producer Brian Grazer explains that a film is in the works, fans should pay more attention to the show, whose budget will swell with bloody, mysterious goodness!
