Crowdmed Diagnoses Medical Mysteries Using Professionals and the Public

CrowdMed is an interesting new site that uses crowdsourcing to help diagnose mysterious illnesses. The company believes in using collective wisdom to help crack curious medical cases. CrowdMed consults MDs (medical detectives) to help diagnose patients. MDs consist of doctors, med students, nurses and members of the public with no medical background. The idea behind the use of normal people is that they sometimes have experience with a disease or knowledge that just can't be learned in school or in a hospital.

The cost to submit a case to CrowdMed is $199. The fee is refundable if none of the diagnoses given are accurate. To date, the site has diagnosed 20 cases and has saved its users over $4.5 million in possible medical bills. CrowdMed is currently in beta testing, although the future seems bright as more and more people are taking their health into their own hands.
