High-Back Embracing Sofas

Cozmo Hug High-Backed Sofa by Pearson Lloyd Has Posture-Driven Comfort

The Cozmo Hug high-backed sofa system by Pearson Lloyd rethinks how we sit and rest, shaping form around posture, support, and tactile feedback. The design began with full-scale physical prototyping instead of virtual sketches, prioritizing real ergonomic responses. With a lofty backrest, pronounced lumbar region, and generous neck and head support, the piece wraps the user without overwhelming the room. Loose fabric covers drape like garments, hiding internal feather and foam arrays that cushion while allowing shape variation.

The modular frame is built on a steel web structure that supports layers of dense foam, memory foam, and feather quilting arranged for comfort. Removable upholstery allows wear and tear to be addressed and makes cleaning easy. Displayed in London at the Comfort Lab exhibition, this work shows that sofa design can be both sculpturally bold and deeply human, making space for rest, posture, and aesthetic presence in equal measure.
