The Minto Westside Celebrated with This Community Block Party
Gurveer Brah — August 17, 2015 — Social Good
The concept of neighborhood gets lost in the shuffle of globalization with all different forms of social media, but this particular company brings everyone together with a community block party.
The 'Minto Westside Block Party' brought a community together by using local repurposed property, including shipping containers, to celebrate Toronto's west side in a collaboration with Scadding Court Community Centre. Hosted at the Westside Market, the event saw a reclaimed vacant urban space feature a industrial, yet contemporary theme of bright shipping containers repositioning the context of the shipping commodity.
The community block party featured the market bringing back a sense of neighborhood and culture in the downtown core. The event hosted live music, craft and urban street fair vendors, as well as food tents with several of the communities delicious and new eateries. The vacant space holds community events including regularly scheduled farmer's markets.
