Wattbike Debuts the New AtomX
References: leisureopportunities
Wattbike has launched the new AtomX — an updated version of its commercial smart bike that now includes an integrated touchscreen called the Performance Touchscreen 2. Through this upgrade, the AtomX can now provide direct access to a Healthspan VO2 Max test, structured ergo-mode workouts with automatic resistance changes, and various fitness assessments such as FTP and peak power tests. The commercial smart bike can also be connected via Bluetooth and ANT+ to external apps like Zwift, Rouvy, Apple Health, and Peloton.
Previously, accurately measuring VO2 max — a key indicator of cardiovascular health and longevity — often required expensive laboratory equipment or specialist appointments. As such, it is noteworthy that the AtomX makes this test available on a bike that can sit in a gym or even at home. The bike's ergo mode automatically adjusts resistance to keep the user at a target power output.
Wattbike also boasts a subscription-free companion app.

Trend Themes
-
In-bike Integrated Health Testing — Making lab-grade VO2 Max and performance assessments available inside commercial and home bikes transforms exercise equipment into diagnostic-grade monitoring tools.
-
Touchscreen-enabled Workout Ecosystems — On-device touchscreens that deliver structured ergo-mode workouts and assessments consolidate coaching, feedback, and entertainment into a single user interface.
-
Subscription-free Connected Fitness — Hardware that pairs robust connectivity (Bluetooth, ANT+) with no recurring fees shifts value toward device capability and third-party app integration rather than ongoing platform subscriptions.
Industry Implications
-
Commercial Gyms — Commercial Gyms are positioned to host lab-quality fitness testing and personalized performance programs on the gym floor, narrowing the gap between athletic training and clinical assessment.
-
Remote Healthcare and Telemedicine — Home-based VO2 Max measurements and continuous workout telemetry create richer longitudinal cardiovascular datasets for remote patient monitoring and preventive health management.
-
Fitness Software Platforms — Cross-platform connectivity with ecosystems like Zwift, Rouvy, and Apple Health enables aggregated performance analytics and new tiers of personalized subscription services tied to device data.
