Apology-Based Food Campaigns

CPK Offers Free Pizzas for Discontinued Fan Favorites

California Pizza Kitchen is turning customer nostalgia into apology-based food campaigns with a National Pizza Month promotion centered on discontinued fan favorites. Through October 31, CPK is offering up to 25,000 free seven-inch “Apology Pizzas” to customers who comment “Apology Accepted” on designated social media posts. Participants receive a redemption code for a free pizza with a qualifying $20 online purchase. The restaurant is also promising to return one frequently requested discontinued pizza in 2027.

The campaign transforms customer complaints into an interactive brand experience while encouraging participation across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. For CPK, requiring a qualifying purchase can help the giveaway generate additional orders rather than functioning solely as a free promotion. Monitoring comments to determine a future menu return also provides direct consumer feedback, allowing the restaurant to identify demand while building anticipation around nostalgic products.
