Era-Blending Sneaker Designs

Champion and Casbia Blend Elements of the 70s and 90s Together

Champion works with Milan-based label Casbia on the ongoing collaborative series for the Spring/Summer 2019 season -- the recent drop spotlights the Century shoe design. It celebrates Champion's 100th anniversary and the design feature a design inspiration that highlights both the 70s and the 90s. There are stylistic cues and performance tech accents that are representative of both eras.

The design, however, draws influence from high-top silhouettes often found on the court -- specifically Dr. J's time in the 70s and Michael Jordan in the 90s. Both the time eras evoke a different design language and together, the sneakers boast an unstructured upper as a nod to the 70s and a large sole unit recalling the 90s. The uppers are constructed from suede, canvas, and satin materials, it sits atop a large rubber sole crafted from Phylon rubber. Additional details include a leather and canvas lining and vulcanized rubber toe cap.
