Next-generation cataract systems are improving ophthalmic procedures with technology designed to increase surgical speed, consistency and control. Alcon’s UNITY Cataract System is now available in Canada as a standalone platform dedicated specifically to cataract surgery. Its phacoemulsification technology is engineered to provide up to two times faster nucleus removal while delivering 40% less energy into the eye. The system also includes a phaco handpiece that estimates temperature at the incision site, adding another layer of information during procedures.
The Canadian launch expands Alcon’s UNITY platform, which has already supported more than 285,000 procedures globally across 1,350 systems. By offering a cataract-specific configuration alongside its combined vitreoretinal and cataract platform, Alcon can address different surgical settings and workflow requirements. Greater procedural efficiency could also help ophthalmology practices manage growing cataract volumes while strengthening Alcon’s position in surgical eye care technology.
