Esaote Debuts a Specialized Mri System for Brain Tumor Operations

— October 9, 2025 — Tech
Esaote, a medical imaging company, has introduced a new open magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, named I-Genius, which is specifically engineered for use during brain tumor operations.

Esaote developed its MRI system in consultation with neurosurgeons to address a key challenge — the shifting of brain tissue during surgery, which can render pre-operative scans inaccurate and lead to incomplete tumor removal. Unlike conventional intraoperative MRI systems that often use closed magnets and can be complex and time-consuming to employ mid-procedure, this model features an open design and a specialized surgical table. This configuration allows for the patient to remain in place during the brain tumor operation, which will enable the surgical team to acquire new images at various stages of the process without transferring the patient.

Esaote's MRI system design, thus, reduces procedural time, lowers the complexity of integrating imaging into surgery, and provides surgeons with real-time visual confirmation of the extent of brain tumor resection before concluding the operation.
