The Canon EOS C50 Shoots Vertical Or Horizontal Footage

— September 11, 2025 — Tech
The EOS C50 is Canon’s smallest cinema camera, featuring an RF mirrorless mount and a newly developed 7K full-frame CMOS sensor that supports multiple sensor modes—including full-frame 3:2, 7K internal RAW recording at 60 fps, and 4K capture at up to 120 fps. It incorporates a dual base ISO system for improved low-light performance, operating at ISO 800 and ISO 6400 in Canon Log 2, and offers 12-bit Cinema RAW Light recording alongside high-bitrate XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC capture. The camera also supports 32 MP still photo capture in Photo mode. Shipping toward the end of Q4 2025, the EOS C50 is priced at $3,899, with preorders indicating estimated arrival in late November.

The compact EOS C50 weighs approximately 1.5 lb and features a modular design with a detachable handle that houses two full-size XLR audio inputs, REC and Zoom controls, and supports Adobe Frame.io Camera to Cloud integration. It is Canon’s first cinema model to offer 3:2 open-gate recording and simultaneous 2K crop capture, enabling vertical formats such as 9:16 alongside widescreen footage without stopping the primary recording. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with AI subject tracking for eyes, face, head, and body is paired with waveform and peaking displays, a dedicated start-stop button, SD UHS-II and CFexpress card slots, and a time-code terminal. In-body image stabilization is not included, with optical lens and electronic stabilization available as alternatives.
