TV shows that get a lot of preseason buzz often become buzz bombs, according to research company Magna.
Magna followed programs for 10 seasons and found that just 11 out of 39 shows with big preseason buzz went on to become hits.
Shows like Veronica Mars, Deadwood, Men in Trees, Back to You, and Las Vegas all had proven stars on their rosters and plenty of preseason critical acclaim, but still couldn't make their respective series stick.
Implications - You can include among the millions of people disappointed at the cancellation of Veronica Mars. A show that is subtle, erudite, overarching, and cool is hard to come by on any network, let alone UPN or the CW. Nevertheless, the show lives on in pristine form on DVD.
