Adjustable Fracture Braces

Bracesys Kevlar Medical Brace Folds Flat and Adapts to Healing Anatomy

Bracesys Kevlar medical brace is a fracture-immobilisation device developed by Osteoid that replaces traditional plaster casts and off-the-shelf braces with an adjustable framework of segmented units that support bone healing while folding flat like origami. Clinicians can adjust the fit in real time as swelling decreases and anatomy changes, tightening tension points incrementally to match the wearer’s comfort and support needs. The segmented units and connectors allow semi-custom fitting without the lengthy lead times and specialised scanning required by fully custom orthotics.

The framework is fabricated using a hybrid of 3D-printed medical-grade Nylon 12 reinforced at stress points with machined aluminium and stainless steel, while Kevlar tension elements borrow principles from sailing rigging systems to distribute loads precisely. Tensile adjustment is achieved through integrated dials, and the assembled brace for a typical wrist fracture can be wrapped and fitted within minutes rather than hours.
