Clean the Sky - Positive Eco Trends & Breakthroughs

Boston Legacy FC is Joining Forces with mainelove

— April 23, 2026 — Eco
Boston Legacy FC — a new National Women’s Soccer League team — has entered into a multi-year partnership with mainelove. The collaboration is said to "bring together two organizations aligned around performance, community, and sustainability."

mainelove is a Maine-based brand that produces highly recyclable aluminum-canned water sourced from Sebago Lake. Boston Legacy FC has designated the company as the Official Water Partner for the club’s training and matchday needs. Under this agreement, mainelove will replace single-use plastic bottles with aluminum cans that can be recycled and returned to store shelves in as little as 60 days.

The partnership with mainelove directly supports Boston Legacy FC’s goal of eliminating plastic waste from its operations. Fans attending home matches will see mainelove branding throughout the venue, participate in co-branded recycling programs, and engage with the brand at Fan Fest and the Grove beginning in 2027.

Trend Themes

  1. Sustainable Packaging Adoption — A move from single-use plastics to highly recyclable aluminum containers creates potential for packaging systems that close material loops and shorten reuse cycles.
  2. Sports-brand Sustainability Partnerships — Collaborations between teams and mission-driven consumer brands are reshaping fan engagement by embedding environmental commitments into merchandising and matchday experiences.
  3. Circular Supply Chain for Beverages — Returning canned water to retail shelves within weeks points to logistics and reverse-distribution models that prioritize rapid material recirculation over linear disposal.

Industry Implications

  1. Sports Organizations — Professional clubs stand to reconfigure sponsorship frameworks around measurable sustainability outcomes rather than traditional exposure metrics.
  2. Beverage Manufacturers — Drink producers can leverage local freshwater sourcing and recyclable packaging to differentiate via traceable, low-waste product lifecycles.
  3. Event Venue Management — Stadiums and arenas could integrate on-site recycling infrastructure and co-branded circular programs that transform attendee waste streams into returnable retail inventory.
