Forest Cottage Renewals

Borová Lada Cottage is Renovated by Studio Plyš in the Czech Countryside

The Borová Lada Cottage by Studio Plyš is a renovation of a late 19th-century rural house located at the edge of the Bohemian Forest in Czechia. The project preserves the original volume and roofline while carefully removing unsuitable additions made over time, allowing the historic structure to be read more clearly. A new glazed opening replaces part of the former masonry wall, drawing daylight deep into the interior and establishing a direct visual connection between the living spaces and the surrounding landscape.

Structural reinforcement was introduced using concrete columns to support the roof, while a new timber insertion accommodates contemporary functions within the existing footprint. Interior materials combine restored original elements with custom-built furnishings, maintaining continuity between old and new. Exterior shutters and updated building systems improve comfort without altering the cottage’s rural character, positioning the renovation as a restrained update rather than a transformation.
