History-Focused Social Media Bots

The Blackbirds Bot Educates People During Black History Month

Blackbirds is a Twitter bot that was recently launched in an effort to educate people on African-American history, culture and the celebrations and events taking place for Black History Month this year.

After discovering that African Americans make up a large portion of the demographics that use Twitter, the company aimed to expand its services in order to be more inclusive of this group. The Blackbirds bot works when Twitter users direct message it, and it will either provide a fact about Black History, provide information on a community event in a large city, offer self care tips or will show "notable moments and content from prominent black people on Twitter."

Although the company has a long way to go in making Twitter an inclusive platform and having more equal hiring practices, Blackbirds is a step in the right direction for the brand to educate people on the triumphs, successes and tribulations of African Americans.
