The BitList App Gives Free Ebooks to Accompany Your Physical Literature

The BitLit app aims to provide owners of physical books access to the accompanying digital version for free or at a discount. Working with publishers, the Canadian company wants to help book lovers access literature on both print and digital mediums.

The app works by scanning your physical book before giving you a digital copy. BitLit uses your smartphone camera to take a snapshot of your book's copyright page and front cover. The app requires that you write a unique identifier on the copyright page before scanning it. Once BitLit confirms that you're the owner of the book, it offers you a free or discounted companion ebook. The pictures are also stored so that nobody else can use your physical book to gain access to a digital one.
