The smoke capturing capsule by Juan Restrepo is, at first sight, an intimidating presence sitting above your food, but 'The 'Nest' is a highly functional, space-conserving fan. Shaped like a hornet’s nest -- given its all-black exterior that illuminates with curvy yellow lights when turned on -- the Nest is a freestanding fan that turns on automatically when it detects smoke, making it fully hands-free.
When the Nest’s sensors detect smoke, the device expands to open its vents. With normal vents usually positioned above the food -- and taking up a huge amount of space -- smoke is usually sucked in when it is directly above the food. With the Nest, however, the vent is able to absorb smoke from a 360 degree angle.
