Bespoke Experience Uses Commercial Travel for Poverty Alleviation
Tiana Reid — January 23, 2013 — Social Good
Bespoke Experience is the parent organization of the Guludo Beach Lodge, which was founded in 2002 as a way to tackle poverty alleviation in Mozambique through business. The team has since won several awards including two Conde Nast Traveler World Savers Awards and the Travel and Leisure Global Vision Award.
The model is comprised of two main areas. The first is the Guludo Beach Lodge, a resort on a beach in Northern Mozambique where infant mortality is high and life expectancy is low (38 years old). The contrast is palpable. The second part of the business model is the Nema Foundation which is a charity that was established by the team that organizes poverty alleviation and environment protection initiatives.
