In a move away from non-sustainable manufacturing processes, French designer Samy Rio designed an innovative set of personal appliances and electronics utilizing an all-natural bamboo material.
Winner of the Grand Prix of the Jury at Design Parade 10, the 'Bambou Collection' consists of two different styles of personal blow dryers: a fixed handle, a foldable model, and also a portable Bluetooth speaker. All three have been made using natural bamboo tubes which have been lathed to a smooth finish on the outside and then filled on the inside with electrical components that are contained with a waterproof elastomer seal.
The choice of using bamboo materials over more preferred industrial components, like plastic or metal, has the benefit of utilizing a resource that not only looks elegant but is also fully recyclable and renewable as well.
