Bail Bond is a photo series, put together by Italian photographer Clara Vannucci, that explores the strange world of bondsmen, bounty hunters and defendants in present-day New York City.
Bail bondsmen are essentially people who offer the service of putting forward bail money for people who have been arrested; this money insures that the defendant will present themselves in court. The bondsman is then contractually obliged to hunt down the defendant if they abscond. They do this by securing the services of bounty hunters.
Curiously enough, New York City and many other major American cities are plastered with signs for Bail Bonds. This captured Vannucci's attention as the practice is unheard of in her native Italy.
The Bail Bond series offers a fascinating look at this ubiquitous but scarcely understood world by depicting bail bondsmen and bounty hunters in their uniquely peculiar environment.
