AI-Issued Acne Prescriptions

Nolla Health Automates Initial Dermatology Prescribing

Nolla Health is advancing AI-issued acne prescriptions with a Utah pilot that allows its Nolla Derm system to independently issue initial prescriptions within physician-approved treatment protocols. Eligible adults complete an intake questionnaire and facial scan before receiving a personalized treatment plan and prescription through the app. The AI can only select from pre-approved topical treatments and directs patients to a licensed physician when it cannot confidently determine appropriate care. Physician oversight gradually shifts from reviewing every prescription to retrospective sampling as the pilot progresses.

The model moves healthcare AI beyond administrative support toward delivering routine clinical care under defined safeguards. For Nolla Health, the $4.99 monthly program could make acne treatment accessible to more patients while supporting care at scale. Automating lower-acuity cases may also reduce pressure on dermatologists, allowing specialists to dedicate more time to complex patients.
