Agentic Payment Systems

Alchemy and Mastercard Enable AI Agents to Make Purchases

Alchemy is expanding autonomous commerce with agentic payment systems that allow AI agents to complete purchases within user-approved boundaries. Through its AgentCard integration with Mastercard Agent Pay, developers can equip agents with dedicated identity tools, a stablecoin wallet and one-time-use Mastercard payment credentials. Consumers can authorize agents to order food, book travel or manage subscriptions while setting controls around spending limits, merchant categories and permitted transactions. Mastercard’s Verifiable Intent framework also provides proof that an agent acted according to authorized instructions.

The integration could make AI agents more practical for everyday commerce by moving them from product discovery and recommendations into transaction completion. Developers gain payment infrastructure without having to build authorization systems from scratch, while merchants can accept agent-led purchases through existing card networks. For Alchemy and Mastercard, supporting both traditional payment rails and emerging agentic protocols positions their services as foundational infrastructure as autonomous purchasing becomes more widely adopted.
