Offshore Geothermal Powerplants

Endurance Energy Introduced Its Ocean Geothermal Series A Funding

Endurance Energy, a geothermal startup founded by former SpaceX engineer Andrew Redd, emerged with a $54 million Series A funding round to advance plans for offshore geothermal power generation. The company is targeting high-temperature geothermal resources beneath the ocean near tectonic spreading zones, using subsea infrastructure and robotic operations to access energy sources that have largely remained untapped.

Since its founding, Endurance has grown to a 25-person team and attracted backing from investors including Founders Fund, Felicis Ventures and First Round Capital. The company is developing concepts that combine corrosion-resistant hardware, submarine transmission cables and site-selection algorithms that balance resource potential, cable costs and proximity to energy demand centers.

For coastal cities and energy-intensive industries, offshore geothermal could provide around-the-clock renewable baseload power closer to population centers than many existing geothermal resources. If successfully commercialized, the approach could unlock significant new geothermal capacity and contribute to the growing search for scalable, non-polluting energy sources capable of supporting rising electricity demand.
