5G Slice Verification

Ookla and Ericsson Validate 5G Network Slicing Performance

5G slice verification is advancing next-generation mobile connectivity by giving consumers and enterprises the ability to independently measure the performance of dedicated 5G network slices. Through their collaboration, Ookla and Ericsson have developed a methodology that enables the Speedtest app to identify and test individual network slices, allowing users to verify service quality and confirm whether performance matches promised service-level agreements. The capability supports differentiated connectivity for applications such as cloud gaming, industrial IoT, emergency communications, and high-resolution video streaming.

For mobile operators, verifiable network slicing strengthens the business case for premium 5G services by providing measurable proof of performance rather than relying solely on advertised specifications. Independent validation can also increase customer confidence and support new pricing models tied to guaranteed quality of service. As 5G Standalone networks continue to expand, transparent performance verification is likely to become an important component of enterprise and consumer connectivity offerings.
