Pragmatic visionary who balances eyes-to-the-sky ideas of grandeur with down-to-earth practicality. Deeply committed to the creative and artistic processes. Believes true innovation is possible once boundaries are established. Interested in ideas, exploration & collaboration. Conduit between creative teams and departments. Highly organized trend researcher & theatre director who is constantly on the look-out for the next trend, product, or big idea. Fascinated by the world around me. My mentor described me as a creative dumpster diver, which I think is a fitting title.
What's your favorite accomplishment?
It's a tie. Directing my first production in college and feeling like I really nailed it and hiring a letterpress artist I met in Austin at SXSW to do an in-store campaign for my old employer.
How do you define cool?
I used to think cool was effortless. Then I realized how hard people work at being cool. Now, I think authenticity is cool. I think knowing one's self and being true to it is cool. Art and design that open us up -that connect rather than isolate– is cool. Community is cool as is finding parallels between seemingly disparate groups. Cool can be hard to define but I know it when I see it.
What is your secret to uncovering trends?
Countless hours surfing the world wide web. Tuning in to what I'm seeing around me - in stores, in life, in magazines, in friends. Just paying very close attention to the world around me.
What do you enjoy most about Trend Hunter?
The opportunity to post trends + the amazing community.
What is your favorite trend?
I am currently obsessed with the idea of hiving as a response to current economic fears. I love that people will be connected to their home, but that it's not isolated. It's not about cocooning but networking and connecting and being part of your community.
How do you reset to be creative?
I'm an inspiration board creating monster. Digital or on the old corkboard - swiping images and arranging them always refuels me. It's a helpful tool to organize my brain around what interests me right now. Might I also suggest that a bath or nap work wonders too.
What inspires or excites you?
New designs, fresh talent, innovation, sustainability, helping others, collaboration and community.
