From creative power forums with Muhammad Yunus, founder of the Grameen Bank, as the keynote speaker to eco-friendly Internet hangouts that also holds more structured gatherings, these social business conferences take the corporate (that is, a conference) and attempt to make it a little something else: perhaps a little like something in between market and mission, like a social business itself.
One example of how social business conferences attempt to make something new and different, for instance, is Good Deals Pitch Presentations. SocialBusiness.org witnessed this at the 2011 Social Finance Forum but it's an idea that stems from the impact investing conference Good Deals UK. The idea is that the audience hears five-minute pitches from social ventures and votes on the one that makes the most sense to them.
