Royal Mint Debuts a New Coin Celebrating the Lifeboat Charity

The Royal Mint commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) by releasing a new 50p coin. Since 1824, RNLI volunteers have been dedicated to saving lives at sea, with over 200 stations forming a 'ring of safety' around the UK.

To mark this milestone, each of the 238 lifeboat stations will receive the unique commemorative 50p coin. The Royal Mint, in support of the RNLI's lifesaving efforts, will donate a portion of the proceeds from each coin sold. Designed by coinage artist John Bergdahl, the coin features a tribute to the RNLI's work.

Using a combination of traditional engraving techniques and modern minting technology, the original design was faithfully translated onto the coins under the guidance of Royal Mint product designers Daniel Thorne and Thomas Olawuyi.
