Yoti & Licensing Connect Launched Its Licensing Connect Integration

Yoti and Licensing Connect introduced an integrated age-verification service to help licensed retail and hospitality venues adopt digital ID checks. The partnership combines Yoti’s Digital ID Connect ID Checker with the Licensing Connect app, allowing staff to verify digital IDs certified under the UK government’s Digital Verification Services Trust Framework.

Customers present a QR code through their digital ID app, which staff can scan using any smartphone to confirm that the ID is valid, belongs to the customer and proves they are old enough to purchase age-restricted products. Only an age result, such as "over 18," is shared, limiting unnecessary personal data collection. Licensing Connect also provides training, refusals registers, incident records and automatic audit trails.

For licensed businesses, the integration simplifies age checks while supporting compliance ahead of regulatory changes expected in autumn 2026. The launch reflects the growing shift toward privacy-focused digital identification that reduces reliance on physical documents and lowers the risk of accepting fraudulent IDs.

Trend Themes

  1. Privacy-first Age Verification — Digital ID systems that share only eligibility signals are reshaping compliance by reducing personal data exposure while maintaining trust in age-restricted transactions.
  2. Smartphone-based ID Checks — Everyday mobile devices are becoming verification tools, creating room for lower-cost compliance solutions that avoid dedicated hardware in retail and hospitality settings.
  3. Compliance Automation Platforms — Integrated audit trails, training records and incident logs are expanding age-check tools into operational platforms that support regulated businesses preparing for policy changes.

Industry Implications

  1. Licensed Retail — Convenience stores, supermarkets and specialty retailers face new potential to streamline restricted-product sales through faster, privacy-preserving digital verification.
  2. Hospitality Technology — Bars, restaurants and entertainment venues are seeing digital identity integrations evolve into staff workflow systems that combine customer checks with compliance documentation.
  3. Digital Identity — Certified trust-framework providers are positioned around demand for interoperable, fraud-resistant credentials that replace physical documents in regulated commercial environments.
