'Bluebikes' is Adding a Fleet of eBikes to its Rental Suite

'Bluebikes,' a public bikeshare program operating in several U.S. cities, including Boston, Brookline, Arlington, and more, has officially rolled out its first suite of electric bicycles to add to its rental service in Boston. The debut fleet includes 750 bikes, each of which equipped with a motor powerful enough to achieve a speed of 20 mph, a battery that can power the bike for 60 miles per charge, and an array of smart technologies.

These technologies include an LCD screen that showcases trip information such as distance, duration, battery life, and navigation. Aside from the screen, the bikes have an LED headlight, as well as reflective paint for visibility in low-light scenarios. In terms of its cost, renting a Bluebike e-bike costs $0.25 per minute for non-members, $0.10 per minute for members, and $0.07 per minute for low-income members who sign up through the public bikesharing program.
