13 Socially Conscious Soaps

While I've written elsewhere about certain NGOs in particular that call on colonial-era marketing in order to promote an idea in less-industrialized areas of the world, in particular in Africa in order of the relationship between hygiene, race and uncleanliness, many of these socially conscious soaps are based and sell to the Western World.

At the same time, however, many of these companies use less of a model based on donations, that is, donating soaps to communities in the Majority World but rather, they use fair trade and sustainable practices in order to further their mission, whatever that may be. From certified sustainable soaps to health-focused hygiene cosmetics and design-focused social products, these socially conscious soaps come in a variety of scents such as lavender and lemongrass.
