With thousands of tweets going out per second and tons of new selfies being shared across Instagram, it’s nice to know that some of these are contributing to the use of social media for good.

Selfies have become a phenomenon that a lot of people now just roll their eyes at, but the "unselfie" movement is one that people are adopting to support raising money for the Philippines after this year’s devastating typhoon and it's nothing to scoff at. People are holding signs in front of their faces with the hashtag "unselfie" and a URL to where people can go to donate money through UNICEF.

Another exemplary use of social media for good comes from the ‘Everyday Africa’ Instagram account, which shares gorgeous shots of a continent that is often negatively stereotyped.
