Burdifilek Builds a Sculptural Department Store Interior in Seoul

A zen-like shopping mall fits well into the context of today's day and age as individuals are certainly prioritizing experiences alongside their consumer needs.
Canadian design studio Burdifilek has successfully taken a stab at the concept of a zen-like shopping mall by completing the Hyundai Seoul department store in Seoul—the retail space opened last year. The Toronto-based practice emphasized sculptural forms in this project. It also amplified the influx of natural light with a lightwell in the central atrium. Burdifilek incorporated sporadic vegetation in the interior of the zen-like shopping mall. The trees and the plants are playfully framed by the soft sculptural forms in white.
All of the retail stores in the Hyundai Seoul department store are organized around the atrium.
