Upon first glance, one may be lead to assume that we’re under invasion from UFOs or that these ultra-cool and futuristic private homes were inspired by the creators of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. However, it may be the other way around. The homes pictured are part of John Lautner’s Celebrated Homes and they were built in the 1960s. The Elrod Home, appears as though it sprung forth from the rocks behind it. This amazing private home is nestled in Palm Springs, CA, and was created by the architectural genius, Lautner, in 1968. If you’re a movie buff, the stylish pad built upon stilts with the deep blue sky as its backdrop may have you scratching your head while asking, “Damn that looks familiar, where I have seen it before?” Allow me to enlighten you… A replica of Lautner’s 1960 Chemosphere Home was where Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell got hot-n-heavy in the campy 2000 hit movie, Charlie’s Angels. John Lautner was in his late forties and early fifties, a time in one’s life when others postulate many are “old, and stuck in their ways.” Although true for some, Lautner shattered the stereotypes with his fresh and young ideas. His futuristic designer homes are still just as trendy and new today as they were yesteryear. Source: johnlautner.org Via: nytimes |
