High-Profile Art Awards - Turner Prize Nominees Announced (GALLERY)

The Turner Prize is a contemporary art award and the UK’s most prestigious of its kind. The prize is awarded each year to “...a British artist under fifty for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work in the twelve months preceding,” according to the Tate Britain. The organizers of the Turner Prize appear to pride themselves on whipping up a frenzy of backstabbing and sniping about how rubbish the art is each year. For example, this year Cathy Wilkes has a mannequin sitting cross-legged on a toilet as part of her installation. Click through the gallery and judge for yourself.
