Threadwork: Women Redefining Fiber Arts Opens at Saatchi

The new Threadwork: Women Redefining Fiber Arts exhibition is made up of work by 17 female-identifying textile artists and it is curated by Saatchi Art's Associate Curator India Balyejusa and Assistant Curator Siting Wang. The collection is made up of mixed-media tapestries, tactile wall hangings, and handwoven art. Starting with work by artist Andie Grande, she creates art to change the environmental landscape through using synthetic fibers.
She notes that “Recycling junk for the mere sake of recycling is not enough. I strongly feel that praising matter for its own sake is more fulfilling, and art is the best way of looking at discarded materials as a resource for creation.” Another artist includes Vanessa Calero who focuses on the human-nature connection through textiles. She explains, "My work captures the passing moments in the natural world, snapshots taken through careful observations and sketches and then preserved in each of my textile designs.”
