Tiffany & Co's airport store in Singapore’s Changi Airport boasts a striking façade that incorporates 3D-printing and repurposed fishing nets. The intricate storefront created by Dutch design firm MVRDV for Tiffany & Co draws inspiration from Singapore’s vibrant coral reefs, and it helps to repurpose fishing nets.
The design made from recycled plastic fishing nets is cell-like in shape and representative of the brand's signature color, but in a way that mimics the way light appears underwater with deeper tones. In compliance with fire safety regulations, BuroMilan, the architectural firm that helped to bring the 3D-printed design to fruition, noted that seawater was added to a chemical mixture during construction to protect the façade.
Within the store, the striking outer component makes just as much of an impact and the oceanic themes are carried through to everything from the fixtures to the furniture.
