They have selected their favorites and let you vote for yours and make suggestions. Like the telegraph that began the era of long distance instant communications, and the steam engine that powered the trains that crossed continents.

Other items on Wired’s list include the Ditto machine, flash powder, laser discs, plate armor, punch cards, slide rules, stock tickers and sundials. User submissions include crossbows, microfilm and gas station road maps.
