The folks at Engadget observed kids playing with a SMART Table at Haines Elementary School in Chicago, and from the looks of the video and images they captured, this gadget is set to revolutionize the way kids of the future learn and interact together.

The touchscreen table has a durable plastic cover and can handle up to 40 touches at once, so it’s certainly made for small-group learning. There are a number of apps on the SMART Table, which teachers can control with a USB access key. Among them are puzzle-type games like the tangrams in the gallery, photo-based games and a painting app.

Below, check out footage from Engadget’s visit. The official promo video for the SMART Table appears above.

SMART says the Table should start shipping next spring for somewhere between $7,000 to $8,000 each -- obviously the company will be targeting school systems with its extensive SMART Board sales network, but well-off parents will be able to score one for their hopelessly spoiled darling children as well.
