Japanese Robot Cheerleaders

Murata, a global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of advanced electronic materials, has created a series of robot cheerleaders that show off the company's capabilities in this realm. Although not meant for public release, at least not in the near future, the robot cheerleaders balance on metal balls, dancing and flashing lights in unison, something that could be of surprising use in different industries.

For instance, the robot cheerleaders can improve safety on roads by helping direct traffic or alerting drivers to dangerous road conditions. Outfitted with ultrasonic microphones and infrared sensors, the robot cheerleaders can sense its surroundings in order to navigate accordingly. It is this tech that also allows them to dance together in a synchronized manner.
